Hispanic Cultural diversity Kyleigh frick Janiya edwards Ashlynn jeter

How does it influence hispanics? OVERALL, HISPANICS GENERALLY BELIEVE IN A MALE ROLE, HOWEVER WOMEN DO HAVE AN ACTIVE ROLE IN HEALTHCARE AND CHILDBEARING DECISIONS IT INFLUENCES HISPANICS AS TO HOW A PERSON VIEWS ILLNESS WILL LEAD AS HOW TO THEY WILL REACT TO THE NEWS THAT THEY OR A FAMILY MEMBER IS SICK,HOW THEY’LL REACT TO PAIN, AND WHETHER THEY’LL TAKE MEDICATION OR NOT A STRONG BELIEF IN A HISPANIC CULTURE IS THAT WHEN A PERSON IS SICK, IT’S A PUNISHMENT FROM GOD WHEN A FAMILY MEMBER IS DIAGNOSED WITH A MENTAL ILLNESS OR ANY KIND OF ILLNESS IN GENERAL, HISPANICS BELIEVE THAT THE PERSON SICK WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF AT HOME AND NOT PUT IN LONG TERM CARE OR INSTITUTIONIZED

A DESCRIBTION OF THE BARRIER AND EXAMPLES OF THE BARRIERS MAJOR BARRIERS IN A HEALTHCARE SETTING FOR HISPANICS AND HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS IS LANGUAGE, BELIEFS, AND ECONOMICS MANY BELIEVE IN HOME REMEDIES AND FOLK HEALING; MOST HISPANICS HAVE MEDICAID HEALTH INSURANCE SO THEY MAY RECEIVE HEALTH CARE FROM BOTH A DOCTOR AND A HEALER THE NATIVE HEALER IS CALLED LURANDUA, WHILE HISPANICS ALSO BELIEVE IN HERBAL MEDICINE ONE COMMONLY UNKNOWN BARRIER IS THE “EVIL EYE”. THE EVIL EYE IS WHEN YOU MAKE DIRECT EYE CONTACT WITH WHO YOUR SPEAKING TOO.

HOW CAN HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS MANEUVER AROUND THESE BARRIERS? HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS CAN AVIOD COMMMONN BARRIERS BY LEARNING A SECOND LANGUAGE BY UTILIZING HOSPITAL TOOLS SUCH AS; TRANSLATORS (IF PROVIDED BY THE HOSPITAL) OR A PHONE TO CALL FOR A TRANSLATOR THEY COULD ALSO LEARN A LOT MORE ABOUT EACH CULTURE SO THEY KNOW WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO
