Origins of the project: design proposals from the urban masterplan Development of new community facilities including a new library and community centre and upgrade of the council offices

After the masterplan – and before the move: Public Consultation on the proposed redevelopment April - May 2011 Public Consultation on the proposed redevelopment of the Civic Centre September 2011 JPE Architects explored ways that the new Civic and Community Centre could represent and reinforce Walkerville’s distinct built form character, its civic pride and local community spirit. Workshops with staff and Architects, JPE Design, to discuss our desired outcomes.

Enhancements For the first 12 months we worked within the building as designed and were able to identify a number of areas for improvement. This has included the following modifications: Anti glare blinds to reduce impact on computer users in the library.

Enhancements Re-purposing the youth area for all library users

Enhancements Installing iPads in the children’s area and providing more comfortable seating Dedicated recharge point at the entrance of the library for mobility scooters Moving collections around to better suit areas and adding additional shelving Improving the acoustics in the Town Hall
