Locke and the Perfect State of Nature

What’s the big deal about John Locke?

Big Ideas Perfect State of Nature No rules, only the laws of nature All people are born FREE, EQUAL, and INDEPENDENT All People have the right to: Life Liberty Property A man can lawfully punish another if any of these rights are threatened (self defense) If any of these rights are not protected they have the obligation to fight back.

Perfect State of Nature

Questions Should people submit to a government? Why? Why not? Should people still submit if a government becomes tyrannous? Can there ever be a perfect state of nature or will man always want to be ruled?

Nature and the Hunger Games

Discussion Is Katniss different from the other girls in the novel? How? Is this a product of her being in a perfect state of nature or “survival mode”? Are all the citizens of Paneum oppressed? Does the government protect the Laws of Nature for its citizens? What does it protect? What does it not protect? Will the Hunger Games be a good example of a perfect state of nature?

Will the citizens of Paneum continue to submit to the government? Final Question Will the citizens of Paneum continue to submit to the government?
