Welcome Home A Tour of 1734 N Street

Rear Admiral William Radford Commander Radford The Admiral led the Ironclads (pictured) into battle throughout the Civil War.

General Nelson A. Miles General Nelson A. Miles This picture of the dining room was featured in an 1899 New York Times article published on the home of General Miles. General Miles was an avid big game hunter and collector of cultural artifacts. Miles displayed his vast American Indian collection in the room that is now home to our archives. General Nelson A. Miles

The White Family Drawing room decorated by the Whites The murals on the walls of the drawing room were commissioned by the Whites and painted in Paris. The inscription by Mrs. White on the music room mantle

HQ as Office Space The Great States Room is located on the third floor, next to the President's office. The WHRC office serves as both an office and a library dedicated to women’s history.

The Music Room Pictured is the Chickering Grand Piano (1925), the Herschede Clock (1921), Mt. McKinley National Park (1923), and In the Arroyo (1924).

Although the drawing room maintains much of its original charm, it is decorated with furnishings and artwork donated from clubwomen throughout the years. Its decorations help it maintain a presence from each generation of clubwomen.

The Solarium The basket weave ceiling and green tile floor adorn the solarium. They are a beautiful example of the arts & crafts influenced details put into the home by Grace Hoffman White.

The GFWC Tea Room & the Iron Gate The GFWC Tea Room after its 1925 conversion The former carriageway where the Iron Gate Restaurant is now located

The Dining Room Pictured is the empire mahogany sideboard and table donated by the Minnesota Federation, and the chandelier donated in honor of Alma Preinkert.

The Executive Floor The President’s door is always open when you stop by to visit Headquarters!

The Women’s History and Resource Center When GFWC moved into 1734 N Street, we began using the room above the carriageway to store documents and conduct research. Since 1984, this room has stayed true to its original intentions, when it was opened as the Women’s History and Resource Center. Today, it houses the GFWC archives, which date back to 1890.

GFWC Guest Rooms In 1738 GFWC has five rooms and nine beds dedicated to housing our visiting clubwomen. This house is your home!

We hope to see you here soon!
