French Culture Task Activity 59

Food & Drink Aside from the classic the baguette, croissant, and fine wines France has an exquisite line up of meals and beverages. Offering such delights as macarons, tomato and eggplant casseroles and even their McDonalds are fancy with, no joke, Le petit baguette. Most of the best French recipes can be found in Julia Child’s Mastering the art of French Cooking.

Fashion France has a reputation for exquisite clothing, even going as far as Paris being regarded as the world fashion capital. On top of that it is home to many big fashion brands such as Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and much more. France even goes as far as to have a Paris fashion week, hosting numerous events and shows.

Famous People France is no stranger when it comes to celebrities from actors (Emma Watson) to athletes (Tony Parker) even one of the most recognisable wrestlers Andre the Giant. If you’re like me you probably had no idea that they were French. I guess it just goes to show the talent produced there.

Climate France is in the Northern Hemisphere, meaning it’s cold in the Winter and mild in the summer. But along the Mediterranean sea it’s a different story with there being hot Summers and mild Winters.

Sports and Hobbies France follows the traditional trend of popular sports, such as Rugby, Basketball and Soccer. Though sport in France is mainly associated cycling as it hosts the biggest cycling event, The tour de France. Fun fact in 2011 Cadel Evans, an Australian won the tour de France.

Art, music and television (heading that interests me) First it’s not a secret that some of the most beautiful artworks. While he may not have been born there Van Gogh spent an extensive amount of time at France and is arguably the most famous artist ever. On the subject of art the Mona Lisa can be found at the Louvre. The French have a large array of classic and modern music, both worthy of attention. As well as countless other styles. France has the norms sport channels, news and children's shows. In fact you can view some of them online.

Significant buildings or places to visit Without a shadow of a doubt Frances most notorious tourist attraction and structure the Eiffel tower must be first on your list of places to see. If your there don’t miss out on the Arch de triumph (that place with the massive roundabout and the Louvre, previously mentioned it holds the Mona Lisa. People who’ve seen it though say it’s smaller than you’d expect.

Customs and traditions France in itself isn’t to different to what you’d expect but it does host some noteworthy events. Such as the afore mentioned Tour de France, Bastille day and on May the 8th they celebrate the day the hostilities of World War II on Europe stopped. Unknown to most in France the formal words such as Bonjour are not commonly used among a group of friends. If they are close acquaintances they might say salut instead.

Questions for a French Teenager Do you ever get your le and la’s mixed up? Do you find masculine and feminine necessary? Have you ever watched the Tour de France live in person? Can you speak basic English?

Au Revoir!
