alliteration the repetition of the same sound at the beginning of a word. In the example, ‘The great ghoulish ghost was grinning,’ the ‘g’ sound is repeated at the beginning of several words in the sentence.

rhyme the identity or close similarity of sounds between accented syllables. Poems that use rhyme also use a rhyme scheme, a pattern in which rhyming sounds are organized.
