Source place of publication En Mexico Source publisher Por la Viuda de Bernardo Calderon Source date 1666 notes A catafalque, an elaborate funerary structure, was erected in the cathedral of Mexico City on the death of Philip IV. The statue of Philip IV is shown with four statues of King Solomon, as a symbol of the perfect monarch. In the lower part of the catafalque royal insignia appear surrounded by statues of great rulers (Constantine, Charlemagne, Alexander), god and heroes of Antiquity (Theseus, Jason, Prometheus, Janus), and four female figures representing Spain. The catafalque is crowned with an image of Faith, who carries a cross in one hand and a chalice and host in the other. This engraving is one of the earliest American copperplate prints known.
