Presentation transcript:

The Collection For the Saints 1 Cor. 16:1-4

The Command Given “Lay by in store” This indicates forethought, not afterthought – 2 Cor. 9:1-7 Different from the Mosaic Law’s tithing – Lev. 27:30-34 On the first day of every week – 1 Cor. 16:2

The Reason Given To provide for needy saints Both in the local congregation (Acts 4:32-35) and for those abroad – Rom. 15:25-26 To maintain the work of the local Church Including supporting those that preach the gospel – 1 Cor. 9:3-14 And because the Church has no other authorized means of income!

What Is Your Attitude? God loves a cheerful giver – 2 Cor. 8:1-7 And He is to be our first priority Is this the case in giving as well? – Deut. 26:1-4 The amount is not so important as the motivation and mindset – Mark 12:41-44 Remember how much the Lord has blessed you!

Conclusion Giving as we have prospered is a command and a privilege we have as members of the Church. It is just one way that we give back to God for all He has given us. The collection is to ensure that the work of the Church can continue into the future.
