Think like a Geographer ACTIVATE Be READY TO LEARN Think like a Geographer The Quaternary Period The Earth is believed to be 4.55 bn years old and so studying the Earth has led us to devise a geological timescale that divides Earth’s history into a series of eras, periods and epochs. The period of timeline that spans from 2.6 million years ago to the present day is called the Quaternary Period. This period marks a time when there was a global drop in temperature and the most recent ice age began. It is thought that there have been 5 ice ages in Earth’s history. LO: To explore the evidence of climate change during the quaternary period.
