New Proposals about Evaluation of Complete e-Learning Course Digestion Evgeny Eremin AICT Astana, 2014 New Proposals about Evaluation of Complete e-Learning Course Digestion Perm State Pedagogical University (Russia)

Objective measurement of results – one of the main problems of e-Learning My report propose some new ideas in this area.

The main idea of evaluation: student’s knowledge after mastering an educational course must be the organic whole but not the mosaic of isolated facts. (isolated facts vs one picture) (student 1) (student 2) How can we evaluate this?

Example of calculations is coded in binary system is coded in data data binary system is representation of is measured in information bit(s) is a base of is stored in symbol 1 byte is measured in information bit(s) consists of memory cells F = 4 (facts) T = 8 (topics) G = 4 (groups) ------------------- T/G = 2 F = 4 (facts) T = 4 (topics) G = 1 (group) ------------------ T/G = 4 (student 1) (student 2)

Real student’s results: 7 groups of concepts: 20 + 5 + 5 + 3 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 38 T/G = 38/7 ≈ 5.4

How I measured (1) Base of concepts Eremin E.A. Using Topic Map Technology in the Planning of Courses from the CS Knowledge Domain. 7th Baltic Sea Conference on Computing Education Research (Koli Calling 2007).

How I measured (2) Software for measurement Details: Eremin E.A. Original Experimental Method to Evaluate Conceptual Students’ Knowledge. Procedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2012, Volume 55, p.1227-1232.

With what I compared results (1) I supposed that success of course’s learning can also be evaluated independently as a time of finishing all tasks. So I get simple gauges of learning success: rating number R (1 .. N) or X-rating = (R - 1) / (N - 1) (0 .. 1, doesn’t depend from N).

With what I compared results (2) Linear correlation between X and examination marks is near –0.8 first student last student mark = -1.7 X + 4.9 (1)

Final diagram T/G = -1.6 X + 5.0 (2) Expression (2) is close to (1) from the previous slide!
