The perfection of ecological sphere and the Preserving the National Park "Curonian Spit" The work is done by Polyakov Mihail and Klimenko Daniil, the pupils of the 8th class School 1

Our school has been taking part in the international ecological projects since 2006. We have studied the ecological situation in the river Pregolya, planted many trees, cleaned the beaches and learned many new facts about bees.

The purpose of the International Environmental Project "Treasures of the Baltic Sea coast“is: To continue the tradition of building fascines on the shore of the Curonian Spit.

To study of the sandy beach, dunes, sand movement in the Curonian Spit National Park. Preserving the National Park "Curonian Spit" for future generations.

Since 1843 there were no fixed wandering dunes on the northern slopes of the Curonian Spit. Finally it was fixed 360 hectares of shifting sands and created 1,500 hectares of new plantations. Mobility of the sand dunes in the village of “ Lesnoe” on the area of 13 km. decreased to 60%. The objectives of the project were to develop skills building fascines. When scientists examined the land they decided to built fascines because the mobility of the dunes in the area was great due to the fact that the site was unfastened.

During the Second World War more than 800 hectares of forest was burned. Near the village of «Lesnoe» the movement of sand was very great. After the war the work on the restoration began The active intervention of the person affected the coastal area near the village .

The warm and wet years, flooding of the area, heavy storms during which high sea wave hits the slope of the dunes and washes away the sand and vegetation. The sand moved to the side of the bay. The height of the coast is reduced. And if you do not fix the shore, the coast line will disappeared in the bay.

Our group of students together with the group of German pupils made very important work. We fastened 200 meters of the coast line with the help of fascines. It was in 2010.

In 2016 we again built about 80 meters of the coast line with the help of fascines. Besides we cleaned the roads from the sand.

The National Park "Curonian Spit« is famous for not only its dunes but also for rare species of fish. In general I want to say that the National Park "Curonian Spit" is very unique place and we must take care of it to preserve for the future generation.

Parks and Reserves in Germany Thanks to our projects with German school we can compare the situation with parks existing in this country. We were lucky to visit National park Kellerwald-Edersee. This is the forest of beech( бук) forests.

Today the World Heritage List covers 878 cultural and natural heritage sites, including in Germany. Now I want to tell you about this forests.

The best semi-natural beech (бук) forests in Germany are nominated as WORLD NATURAL HERITAGE under the UNESCO World Heritage Convection Primeval beech forests have only survived in the eastern part of Central Europe, mainly in the Carpathians.

Thanks to great work of scientists and volunteers now, forests have once again are able to grow naturally in Germany, in national parks or natural forest reserves.

Today the World Heritage List covers 878 cultural and natural heritage sites, including in Germany. Now I want to tell you about these forests.

Today beech forests can be found only in Europe. In the reserves the forests are left untouched for many years as a special laboratory in the forest. Scientiests want to know the natural changings in the forest during the long period of time.

We studied the deciduos (лиственные) forests. They dominate in Germany .

Ecological situation, insects badly influence on the trees. Many species of them dissapear. Together with German friends we planted many fir-trees in the forest.

We hope that our projects will be continued.
