Science Topics for the year: Safety in the lab Testable questions Forming hypothesis Designing experiments Graphing results Drawing conclusion Earth’s Crust Mixtures and solutions heat and thermal energy Diversity of life GRADE 6 FLIGHT SPACE DIVERSITY OF LIFE ELECTRICITY

Where are we ? We always start at the classroom, come here first. If we aren’t’ in the class there will be a sign on the classroom door. In the room, Do you know ? fire escape route ?

Make a 3x3 tic tac toe chart, add a free space, choose any 8 words Graduated cylinder Funnel Florence flask Ring clamp Tongs Measuring spoons Eyedropper Thermometer Beaker Watch glass Microscope Erlenmeyer flask Test tube Coverslip Wooden stir stick Test tube rack Tweezers Rubber stopper Filter paper Petri dish Test tube brush Scales slide

Let’s go check out the lab Point to the fire exit . Locate the eye wash. Is there a fire extinguisher? Where are the functioning sinks ? Do the gas taps work ? Do the sinks at your station work ? Where are the electrical outlets ? Where can you store your books ? Where are the garbage cans? Where are beakers, test tubes, and supplies located? Can students enter ?

Turn to page 492 in text book Read over the symbols for safety. Look around the room. Are any present ? Then head back to class for lab safety videos.
