A reference to a person, place, or event from outside the text. The allusion is making a comparison to help us better understand something. An allusion can refer to anything, including mythology, history, other pieces of writing, movies, or pop culture. When dad lost his job, mom turned into a Scrooge. He was so angry I expected him to turn green and tear his shirt to bits by flexing his bulging muscles. Allusion
