The Solar System. By:Yusra Syeda

Mercury Mercury is the closest planet to the sun. This planet moves very fast and only takes 88 days to orbit the sun! But Mercury takes 59 days just to turn from day to night! Mercury has no moons. Mercury can be seen without a telescope on clear nights.

Venus Venus is the second closest planet to the sun. Venus is the brightest planet in our Solar System. Venus orbits the sun in 262 days. You can also see Venus in the daytime. Venus is the hottest planet in the whole solar system.

Earth Earth is our planet. It is the only known planet to have life in. It is the 3rd planet from the sun. Earth takes 365 ¼ days to orbit the sun. This is why every four year they add up to a full quarter and this is why we have a leap year The earth is not even exactly a sphere!

Mars Mars’s nickname is the Red Planet. It is the fourth one from the sun. Mars has 1 earth year and 320 days in one Mars year. You can also see Mars from Earth in the evening. Mars also has the polar ice caps like Earth this is why scientists think there is life on Mars!

Jupiter Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system As well as that it also is the fourth planet from the sun. One day in Jupiter is only ten hours! Jupiter is the stormiest planet in the solar system Jupiter has 64 moons in total.

Saturn Saturn is the fifth planet from the sun. This planet has many visible rings as you can see from the picture  Saturn has 18 moons in total. Saturn takes twenty nine and a half years to make one orbit around the sun.

Uranus Uranus is the second furthest planet from the sun. (Pluto does not count as it is a dwarf planet) Uranus has twenty seven moons in total It takes eighty four years to orbit the sun.

Neptune Neptune is the furthest planet from the sun excluding Pluto It takes Neptune one hundred and sixty five years to complete one neptune year It is the third largest planet
