“Letter FROM BIRMINGHAM JAIL” Objective: I will analyze and evaluate the argument in Dr. King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” Select the Collections Login tab under Unit 3, logging in with the credentials you use to sign onto any computer in the building. Go to page 319. Select Resources on the right side toolbar. Select “Level Up Tutorial: Analyzing Arguments.” If you have ear buds, you may use them. Go through all 8 slides of the tutorial, jotting down the definitions of the words in bold, as well as any examples. When you are done taking notes on all 8 slides, complete the practice activity slides. Please record your score out of 4 in your notebook.

“Letter FROM BIRMINGHAM JAIL” Objective: I will analyze and evaluate the argument in Dr. King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” As a class, we are going to listen the opening of Dr. King’s letter (pages 319-320), answering these questions as we go: What is Dr. King’s claim in his letter? Who is his audience? What is the premise on which he basis his claim? What evidence does he employ to make his case? Which of this evidence is logical? Which of this evidence is emotional? Why are both logic and emotion needed? Identify an allusion. Identify at least one counterargument that Dr. King brings forth. How does he argue against it?

Write a love letter from a young Walter Younger, Sr. to a young Lena Younger. The time period of the letter would have to be in the 1910s when Mama and her husband were just starting out their lives together. What are their lives like? What hopes do they have? What fears? Please glue your Cornell Notes on the right side of ______________. 2. Using the stage directions at the beginning of Act 1, draw a picture of the Younger family living room/kitchen area. Make certain that you follow Hansberry’s descriptions closely. Use the set design sheet that is linked on the website. Answer the questions as we read the play aloud in class.
