Professional athlete salaries a continuous matter of debate Candace Lawler

Synopsis In the article, “The Professional Athlete Salaries a Continuous Matter of Debate” is about people stating their opinion on if they believe that athlete’s are getting paid too much. Some people don't think that players overall are overpaid, while some do think that certain individuals make too much. I agree with Cheryl Clark, in her opinion she’s questioning why teachers are getting little to nothing compared to athlete’s.

Key Points “Average salaries in all sports are at all-time highs.  The league with the highest average salary is the National Basketball Association. ” “Clark does not understand why teachers, who basically have the future of the country in their hands, make so little and athletes, who entertain the public for such a short period of time, make so much.” “The only sport that has a leash on its players' salaries is the National Football League.  The other three leagues offer guaranteed contracts, which means that whatever the amount is when a player signs his contract is the amount he gets. ”

Athlete vs. Teacher Salary

What do I think? Perhaps athlete’s are being overpaid. I agree with Ms. Clark, that teachers aren’t getting paid half as much and they are helping create our leaders of tomorrow. As where, nobody is benefiting from athlete’s, besides the entertainment they provide their watchers. However, there are some athlete’s that do actualy give back to the community.

Derrick Rose, basketball player of Chicago Bulls He is the 7th highest earning US athlete, his annual income at $33.4 million.

The average salary for teacher jobs in Philadelphia, PA is $54,000. Average Teacher The average salary for teacher jobs in Philadelphia, PA is $54,000.

Why I chose this article I chose this article because I was interested in the salaries of athlete’s. I wanted to know the opinions of other people on whether they think the athlete’s are getting paid too much.

How this effects society Yes, these athletes work hard and they don't get the things they work for by just sitting around. Most athletes do give back to their communities and people less fortunate than them. But our tax dollars help pay for them.
