Bath Salts Health 1500 Issac Pedroza

Bath salts, those things we bathe in?? No bath salts are the common street name for the drug Synthetic Cathinones. The reason they have this name is they share a similar appearance with actual bath salts.

What are synthetic cathinones? Synthetic Cathinones are the synthetic version of cathinone. Cathinone comes from the Khat plant. This plant is grown in East Africa and is chewed on for its mild stimulant effects.

Synthetic does it matter? Synthetic means that it was created by humans in a lab. In the case of Synthetic Cathinone this makes it very dangerous. It no longer is a mild stimulant like in the Khat plan.

What type of drug is it? Bath Salts are a stimulant like meth and cocaine. It also has a hallucinogen side to it as well like MDMA. It is classified as a schedule 1 drug by the US Government.

Street Names Flakka aka The Zombie Drug (This is the really Big one) Bloom Cloud Nine Lunar Wave Vanilla Sky White Lightning Scarface Bath salts are also referred to as “Plant Food”, “Jewelry Cleaner” and “Phone Screen Cleaner”.

Usage Ingesting, Primary way of using Snorting Smoking Injecting, most dangerous way of using.

Usage cont. The amount bath salts needed to get a high is 3 to 5 milligrams. The average dose size is 5 to 20 milligrams. Overdose is common since the drugs packaging often recommends larger than needed doses. Also quality control is poor so you could take a lot of it one day then take the same amount the next but over dose because of the concentration.

How do Bath salts affect the brain? Since bath salts are a relatively new drug little is know about how they affect the brain. It is thought that it works similarly to meth, cocaine, and MDMA. All that at once… sounds fun doesn’t it?? (hint: it’s not)

Acute effects on the mind Severe agitation Hallucinations and delusions, Thoughts of self-harm, Suicidal thoughts or suicide, Psychosis, Violent behavior An uncontrollable craving for the drug Insomnia, False euphoria rapidly evolving into paranoia, Nightmares, Depression,

Bath Salts in the US

Facts on bath salts One of the most addictive drugs, even possibly more addictive than meth. Not much is known about the drug. Synthetic cathinones were responsible for 22,000 emergency room visits in 2011. In 2012 the DEA conducted raids in 109 cities seizing 167,000 bags of bath salts.

Bath salts and law It was originally legal and could be found in places like gas stations and smoke shops. Even mom and pop stores sold it to make extra money. In July of 2012 it was made illegal to posses, use, or distribute bath salts. In October 2012 the DEA classified bath salts as a schedule 1 Drug.

Treatment For treatment the only option is therapy. The two types of therapy used are motivational therapy and cognitive- behavioral therapy. Currently there are no drugs that can help with addiction to bath salts.
