How to Mobilize the 21st Century Church for World Missions Peter Badia

What is the difference between What is Missions? What is the difference between Mission and Missions Missions and Outreach

What is Missions? Missions distinct from outreach Acts 13:2-4 Pastoral ministry = building up the church Apostolic ministry = missions Crossing new barriers Proclaiming beyond the church’s reach Paul and Barnabas set apart (commissioned) distinct task (gospel) sent advancing the kingdom While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off. The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus.

What is Missions? Mobilizing The Local Church

The Local Church is a Mission Church… God is a God of Missions The Bible is a Book of Missions Jesus was a Missionary The Holy Spirit is a Mission Spirit, therefore WE ARE A PEOPLE OF MISSIONS! Twenty-First Century local churches must move from a COMMUNITY view to a GLOBAL view:

The Local Church is a Mission Church… God chooses to work through the local church to expand His kingdom and it is central to His plan. In the twenty first century local churches must become equipped in the work of the Great Commission.

This requires a transformation God’s transformation. The Local Church is a Mission Church… To evangelize the world the vibrancy of the early church must be restored. This requires a transformation God’s transformation. A transformation of love, power and the first principles of Jesus Christ.

The Local Church is a Mission Church… GOD is raising up a church that is true to the Great Commission. This church is PREPARED AND MOBILIZED to GO!

The Local Church is a Mission Church… The Twenty-First Century Church makes, matures and mobilizes disciples AND disciple makers. Abandon and break traditions of the past. Yield to be forged into a Great Commission church. Commit to reach the millions of unsaved people all over the world.

What is a Mobilized Church? A church where God’s people are awakened, kept moving and growing until they find their strategic involvement to complete world evangelism. (Mission Mobilizers Handbook )

A MOBILIZED CHURCH Gives: Prays: 10% or more of total church revenue to cross-cultural missions. This is recommended entry level giving. Some Churches give 60%. Long range goal - at least 33%. 25% or more of total missions budget to reaching unreached peoples. Prays: Commits to faithful and obedient intercession for the lost world adopts at least one unreached people group

A MOBILIZED CHURCH Mobilization: Personalizing the Great Commission 1. Praying 2. Learning 3. Giving 4. Sending Bon Voyage 5. Going

A MOBILIZED CHURCH Ministers: Engages 10% or more of all adults in church physically in cross-cultural ministry (short-term missions, international student ministry, etc....) Sends: 1% or more of adults as career missionaries 1% or more of adults as tentmakers, either in training or deployed to the field.

A MOBILIZED CHURCH A MOBILIZED church PERSONALIZES the Great Commission through Kingdom Expansion! “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matt 28:19-20

KINGDOM EXPANSION The Mission of Discipleship Matthew 28:18-20 Go, “having gone” Assignment Make disciples - (Imperative) Task Of all nations, ethne Target Baptize Tasks To obey everything commanded Teach I am with you always Promise

How can my congregation get started or continue the journey of being a Mission Church? Now that you are ready to Become a Global Mission Church, you may ask, “HOW do we do this?” We have developed a booklet that gives you five easy steps to help your congregation wherever you might be on the road to being a Global Mission Church. **Hand out the Be a Global Mission Church booklets

Step 1 GATHER… a team to coordinate the process of helping your congregation become a Mission Church **Refer to STEP 1 in the Be a Global Mission Church booklet. Depending on the group/context help participants think through who might be able to help lead this process in their congregation

LEARN… about mission mobilization Step 2 LEARN… about mission mobilization **If you have time, have the group read STEP 2 and spend some time discussing the questions at the end. Another option is to show the first part of the Connecting Threads DVD: Partners in Mission, and have a discussion.

Step 3 EVALUATE… your mission involvement and discern your launching point **Refer to STEP 3 and help the group participants discern where there congregation is in their global mission involvement: Starting in mission Growing in mission Celebrating mission

Step 4 CREATE… your plan of mission involvement **Turn to STEP 4 and walk through the process of creating a plan of global mission involvement based upon the evaluation that was just done and the specific interests of the congregation.

Step 5 COMMIT… to a specific plan of action in partnership with The GPF Apostolic Missions Network Inc. to advance the Gospel of the Kingdom Global Ministries wants to commit to walking with you as you carry out the ideas for action that you have chosen.
