Introduction Over the two lesson you will be working in pairs to design a menu for your dinner party. You will have to design a 3 course menu for 10 people. You will be given the recipes to choose from. You will have to work which ingredients you need and how much of each ingredient you need using a ratio table.

Introduction You will have to produce a shopping list of all the ingredients and the exact quantities required. Once you have your shopping list you then have to buy your ingredients from a supermarket. You will be given price lists. Remember you may need to buy more than you need, eg you cannot buy 1 egg!

Introduction At the end of this topic you will produce a poster showing: Your chosen menu The full ratio table needed for each course A shopping list How much it cost

In today’s lesson… Decide which 3 courses you are going to choose. You must have one starter, one main and one dessert. Write out which ingredients you need into your ratio tables Begin working out the exact quantities needed.

Lesson 2 Continue working out quantities using your ratio tables if you haven’t finished. Use the Tesco, Aldi and Asda shopping lists to find your ingredients (not all ingredients are available in every shop). Decide how much of each ingredient you will need to buy. Remember you may have to buy more than you need (you can’t buy 1 egg, for example). You might be able to use your ingredient in more than one recipe. Fill in your shopping list and calculate the cost.

Presentation Present your work on a large poster. It must include: Your menu Your ratio tables Your shopping list and prices Your total cost. The most impressive posters will receive positive points.
