Understanding Gamification It‘s not limited to software Up to now there is no unified definition Family of gaming techniques: Gamification Serious games Playful design Visual Enchantment Other

Importance Natural human experience People prefer games over other activities Growing population of gamers

Composition Gamification is composed of: Game elements: Game mechanics Game elements Game elements: Badges, Ratings, Level system and other... Gamifying systems it‘s important to account for player types, defining game rules, define game elements and look at competition

Problems User rejection Motivation decrease over time Gamification problems in the workplace Direct competition increase Employee fears Task fairness

Implementation Where are a lot of gamified system: Stackoverflow, Wikipedia, FourSqueres and a lot more Gamification strategies from SWE perspective: Service, Module, Plugin, System (Internal or External) and mixed Gamification can occur by moving the system to game or building game layer on top of the system

Conclusions Gamification is applying game mechanics and game elements to non-game context. Gamification emerging right now! Games are a preferred interaction over other integration forms. Any system can be gamified!
