ABET Accreditation Visit BSEE and BSCSE Degree Programs September 2011 by Gursel Serpen, PhD

Program Accreditation Outcomes Deficiency - Statement that a criterion, policy, or procedure is not satisfied. The program is not in compliance with the criterion, policy, or procedure.

Program Accreditation Outcomes Weakness - Statement that a program lacks strength of compliance with a criterion, policy, or procedure to ensure that the quality of the program will not be compromised. Remedial action is required to strengthen compliance with the criterion, policy, or procedure prior to the next review.

Program Accreditation Outcomes Concern - Statement that a program currently satisfies a criterion, policy, or procedure, but the potential exists for the situation to change such that the criterion, policy, or procedure may not be satisfied.

Program Accreditation Outcomes Observation - A comment or suggestion that does not relate directly to the accreditation action but is offered to assist the institution in its continuing efforts to improve its programs.

No Deficiencies! No Weaknesses! BSEE Degree Program Accreditation Visit Draft Report in January 2012 No Deficiencies! No Weaknesses!

No Deficiencies! No Weaknesses! BSCSE Degree Program Dual accreditation by ABET EAC and CAC: What a challenge! Accreditation Visit Draft Report received late 2011 and Jan 2012: No Deficiencies! No Weaknesses!

ACCREDITATION & EECS Faculty Worked very hard and long! 2.5 years – several hours of meeting per week on the average for nearly 75 weeks! CSE program faculty deserves special recognition: double the effort, double the requirements to satisfy, double everything! Faculty truly deserves A+ for making this a success story for all of us! Most of this effort and time however was the overhead associated with the first-time investment and will not be repeated!

Accreditation & iab Thanks to IAB for continuous engagement and valuable input to steer the overall effort to success! IAB perspective provided over the past three years is irreplaceable. The department certainly recognizes your unique contribution and thanks you on behalf of our students!

Meaning of All of This! Brand new process! Brand new system! Successfully validated (CSE case is very valuable). Process is applicable for a foreseeable future: can evolve to respond to future changes to accreditation criteria. As the person who created the entire ABET process, and system from scratch, I am the one to blame for any future complications! However, I will take the some of the credit for the present!
