Read to Succeed and more… HOW CPE STRIVES TO MEET THE NEEDS OF STUDENTS

Read to Succeed Law Passed by the Governor in 2014 Components: Reading plans (state, district, and schools) Third grade retention and reading camps Intervention Teacher preparation and training CDEP—Child Development Program Reading coaches

Key Parts of the State’s Plan Read 2 Succeed school team writes plan Based around our District and State plans Students must be able to read on-grade by third grade as of 2017-2018 school year; if not, then student can be retained Reading camps are for third graders who are not reading proficiently by the third nine weeks

Our School Plan: Support for Students Our goal: to use CPE’s resources to provide levels of support for students academically and behaviorally We are: Prevention oriented Implementing interventions Monitoring student progress Striving to increase parent involvement

CPE’s Systems of Academic Support for Students Parent involvement and communication are keys to student success. Universal screeners are used to help identify struggling learners. Professional Learning Communities (Data review and planning) FLEX time and in class interventions (specific or small group instruction) Read 180, System 44, and pull out interventions for reading and math Progress monitoring twice/month

Other Keys to CPE’s Plan Increasing number of books in media center and classroom libraries Celebrating students who meet reading goals Family activities (Evening events and invitations to classrooms) Professional Development for teachers Data driven decision-making Increased time reading independently in class Parent/teacher conferences

CPE’s Systems of Behavior Support for Students Parent involvement and communication are keys to student success. Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS)--changes Focus on prevention and acknowledging positive behavior Point sheets and behavior plans Guidance counselors Character Education

What should parents do? When you have concerns, please contact your child’s teacher(s). Parents and teachers have same goal = student success Check Monday folder Schedule and attend parent conferences READ, READ, READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
