Do – Now Just do – don’t copy word problem. Your family rents a canoe for a deposit of $10 plus $28 per day. Write an equation to model the total cost y of renting a canoe for x days. Use the equation to find the cost of renting a canoe for 3 days. y = 10 + 28x y = 10 + 28(3) y = $94

Plug into y = mx + b to find b 5.2 – Write an equation in slope-intercept form Remember: y = mx + b Given: slope & a point Write an equation of the line that passes through the point (6, –3) and has a slope of –2. y = –2x + 9 Plug into y = mx + b to find b Ex1) (2, –3) & m = 2 Ex2) (–3, 2) & m = y = 2x – 7

Parallel lines have same slope! Remember: y = mx + b Write an equation of the line that is parallel to the line y = x – 2 and passes through the point (–2, 1). Ex1) y = x + 4 & (–2, 0) Ex2) y = –3x + 1 & (4, 2)

Perpendicular Lines have negative reciprocal slopes! Write an equation of the line that is perpendicular to the line y = –3x + 2 & passes through the point (6, 5). Ex1) y = 2x – 1 & (2, 4) Ex2) y = x + 2 & (5, 1) y = 3x – 14
