Matthew 7: 15-20 Ravenous Wolves!

Matthew 7: 15-20 Ravenous Wolves!

Context of our Text: Christ’s words recorded in Matthew chapters 5, 6 and 7 are often called the Sermon on the mount. The reason for this designation is that Jesus “went up on a mountain” (Mt. 5:1) to deliver this message. He did this to make it easier for His audience to hear what He was going to say. A smaller account of the text is found in Luke 6:20-49. Both give an over view of the subjects Jesus taught during His earthly ministry. According to John R.W. Stott, “The Sermon on the Mount is probably the best-known part of the teaching of Jesus, though arguably it is the least understood, and certainly it is the least obeyed.” Because Matthew’s account is more extensive than the one in Luke, we use it to identify key messages that Jesus delivered then and for us today.

Summary of the sermon: Beatitudes and application of the law, Further instructions-Prayer and priorities, Choices and warnings. A major point to remember is this-The words of this this sermon are as relevant today as they were when Christ spoke them. “For “whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat on that house, and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” (Mt. 7:24-25). The question is, will we be like that wise man? Will we take these words to heart from Christ’s Sermon on the Mount?

Mt. 7:15-20 text: Points for your consideration. 1) Be careful who you listen to! Some are False prophets with bad intentions and some could be weak teachers. (vs.15) (Mt. 5:20 righteousness of scribes and Pharisees')

2) Examine the outcome, application, product of a person and his teaching. (vs.16) With your own bible, with your own eyes, with prayer and effort on your part.

3) Accept these Truths. (vs.17-18)

4)The Result of being a bad tree and producing bad fruit. (vs.19)

5)Plea to test. (vs.20)

Question: What kind of fruit are we as Christians producing in the Kingdom of God?
