Scottish Health Council Established 2005 14 local offices Community Engagement Service Change Team Participation Standard Participation Network the NHS Reform (Scotland) Act 2004 created a legal duty on NHS Boards to involve patients and the public in planning and developing health services Creation of Scottish Parliament Controversial reconfigurations around Scotland Guidance not being followed Problems ending up at Minister’s door the Scottish Health Council was established in 2005 to support, ensure and monitor Patient Focus and Public Involvement within the NHS Brief overview of the Scottish Health Council, ending with: … the Participation Network identifies and shares good practice in participation through networking events, research, publications and guidance.

The Participation Network as Knowledge Broker ~ connecting ~ sharing ~ improving ~ The Scottish Health Council is part of Healthcare Improvement Scotland The Scottish Health Council has a unique contribution to make. Through our Participation Network, we act as a bridge between evidence and policy and practice in participation for the NHS in Scotland. We develop, interpret and share research and learning so that practitioners have access to practical resources and effective and innovative ways of working which transform the experience of patients, carers and communities.
