1. Where does Henry Adams come from? How much money did he have? Henry comes from San Francisco. He had no money at all.

2. Did Henry know London well? No, not at all. It’s his first trip there.

3. Why did he land in Britain? He was sailing out the bay when he was carried out to sea by a strong wind and was saved by a ship for London.

4. Why did Henry work in the ship as an unpaid hand? He wanted to earn his passage.

5.Why did Henry stare at the things on the table while talking about his experiences? Because he was very hungry (starving).

6. What did he do in America? He worked for a mining company.

7. Why was Oliver so happy when he heard that Henry had no money at all? Because they were looking for such a man for their bet.

8. What did the two gentlemen give Henry and when could Henry open it? They gave Henry a letter with some money. Not until 2 o’clock.
