Presentation transcript:

The PRESENT TENSE uses the verb's base form (write, work), or, for third-person singular subjects, the base form plus an -s ending (he writes, she works). The PRESENT TENSE indicates that an action is present, now, relative to the speaker or writer.

Tonight we will just discuss the present tense and how important it is to keep the noun and verb(s) and pronouns describing them in the present tense or same tense , especially when writing. So, you ask – how do I do this?

Exercises to help you- There are three ways to keep a verb in the present tense

1. You use the verb’s present form You use this for plural subjects (that means more than one), and for those crazy singular pronouns. The children play near the park. I know how to make a sandwich.

2- You add an s to the present form You’ll only do this when your subject is singular (that means one) Mark plays near the park. The pretty horse gallops across the field.

3- You add an es to the present form You’ll only do this when your subject is singular and the verb ends in s, z, x, sh or ch Mr. Harris teaches first grade. The little girl misses her mom.

Notice: All of the verbs in the sentences show actions that are happening right now. That makes them present tense verbs.

Past Perfect My brother had known the answer Past Perfect My brother had known the answer. Future Perfect My brother will have known the answer.
