CHANDA PUBLIC SCHOOL 2016-17 INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD BRITISH COUNCIL “LETS BE HUMAN” Similarities between the social acceptance of the leprosy patients in past and AIDS patients in present.

CONTENTS :- LEPROSY PATIENTS AIDS PATIENTS INTRODUCTION SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THE SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE OF LEPROSY & AIDS PATIENTS. TERMS OF SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE.

INTRODUCTION HIV and Leprosy patients since the last century have faced a lot of exploitation from the people. The discrimination on the basis of their ailments is wrong and unequal. There are many misconceptions and problems that need to be eradicated on this topic. In this presentation we will present the similarities of social acceptance for acceptance for the leprosy patients in past and AIDs patients in present.

LEPROSY PATIENTS In colonial India, the government enacted the Leprosy Act of 1898, which institutionalized leprosy victims and separated them based on gender to prevent reproduction. These laws mainly affected the poor because those who were self-sufficient were not obligated to be isolated or seek medical treatment.

AIDS PATIENTS The fear surrounding the emerging HIV epidemic in the 1980s largely persists today. At that time, very little was known about how HIV is transmitted, which made people scared of those infected due to fear of contagion. This created many misconceptions amongst both the sufferers and healthy people which became the cause of discrimination against the patients.

Similarities between social acceptance of leprosy and aids patients Leprosy patients in past AIDs patients in present In the past, the press contributed to leprosy stigma, reflecting social values in many areas. Today, media spreads social values contributing to AIDs stigma.

Similarities between social acceptance of leprosy and aids patients Leprosy patients in past AIDs patients in present Feelings of hopelessness and reputation is lost. Loss of hope, reputation and feelings of worthlessness.

Similarities between social acceptance of leprosy and aids patients Leprosy patients in past AIDs patients in present In past, they were exploited and were provided with less health care facilities. Poor care within the health sector and withdrawal of care giving in the home.

TERMS OF SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE People who are suffering form leprosy and AIDs are facing discrimination from normal people. This in fast paced century people still discriminate on the basis of their physical outlook . There have been many norms, laws introduced by many governments and international organizations which need to be followed by people strictly. However, these laws are not followed and misconceptions about these aids and leprosy are considered to be true and right. We only think that this discrimination should end and leprosy and AIDs patients should live with equal rights TERMS OF SOCIAL ACCEPTANCE
