November 2017 Introduction This presentation, together with the reports cited on the next slide, forms the opening report of the IEEE 802.11 Working Group for November 2017. Subgroup status is reported in the “Snapshots” submission (see documents slide for link). This is incorporated by reference into this opening report. “Mx.y.z” terminology indicates that the item was on the tentative agenda for the Monday 802.11 plenary, and was agenda item x.y.z. M2.5 802 EC and IEEE-SA Standards Board (SASB) decisions November 2017 M2.5 802 EC and IEEE-SA Standards Board (SASB) decisions On 2017-09-28 the standards board noted (during the SASB Chair’s report) the response of the 802 chair (ec-17/139r0) on the topic of ongoing 802.11ax SASB oversight. The question of “exit criteria” for the oversight will be considered by the SASB in December 2017 at the Standards Board F2F. On 2017-10-03 The EC Approved JTC1/SC6 comment responses for 802.11ai-2016 (second printing) Content of document: https://mentor.ieee.org/802.11/dcn/17/11-17-1398-00-0jtc-china-comment-on-11ai-errata.docx has been liaised Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation

M2.7 - Chairs actions related to Krack vulnerabilities November 2017 M2.7 - Chairs actions related to Krack vulnerabilities The Krack vulnerabilities were made public on Oct 16th. The chair assembled a “security expert panel” ad-hoc to advise him. This met on the Friday of that week. The chair was invited a meeting of the IEEE marketing department, and a meeting with the IEEE-SA president to answer questions. The goal is to answer questions that may be addressed to the IEEE, and to introspect about whether the processes we use in 802.11 are adequate. This is an ongoing process. The chair announced that TGm will consider this matter (see: http://www.ieee802.org/11/email/stds-802-11/msg02855.html) Adrian Stephens, Intel Corporation
