Who do we see? What do we do? How are you involved? The Barking & Dagenham CAMHS, child wellbeing service, is a 1 year pilot project offering parents, children and young people, brief support, in the form of guided self-help. Who do we see? Children aged 3-8 : Who experience behavioural difficulties (e.g. not listening or following instructions, frequent tantrums) as indicated by NICE guidelines. What is guided self-help? Help that is supported by a Child Wellbeing Practitioner (CWP). Guided self-help means learning Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) techniques which can give the individual the tools to tackle difficulties themselves. The CWP will guide and provide support. Much like a coach to help stick to the interventions and offer motivation. Children aged 5-16 : Who are often anxious or worried (e.g. shyness, feeling panicky, phobias) . Young people aged 11-16 who: Often experience low mood (e.g. sadness, tiredness, low self esteem, frustration. What do we do? Help parents, children and young people learn new coping skills and techniques to build confidence and resilience. How are you involved? Any professional (such as teachers, school nurses, GPs, youth workers etc.) can refer a child or young person to this service. Parents/carers and young people can request a referral to this service through their school Signpost young people, children and their families to a range of other well-being services and resources in Barking and Dagenham.
