Welcome to today’s Enriching Experiences icebreaker Welcome to today’s Enriching Experiences icebreaker. We’re going to take a few minutes to learn a little more about each other and a little more about one of the Enriching Experiences that you may have heard about as part of the UTEP Edge.

Creative Activities Definition Where something new and valuable is formed such as an idea, a theory, a photograph, a musical composition, a painting, or a poem through thinking and imagination Today we’re going to do an icebreaker about Creative Activities. When I say “Creative Activity” as an Enriching or High Impact Experience – what do you think of? That’s right, pretty straight forward – creative activities are activities that use your creativity to come up with something new [When you click again, the definition will appear.] What are some of the creative activities you have been involved in? Music? Art? Dance? How about Engineering? Writing? Why do you think UTEP would specifically focus on creative activities? [Looking for answers such as give students a chance to be creative, show the world how talented we are, provide entertainment for others, etc.]

Define Creative Activities Today’s objectives: Define Creative Activities Connect your talents to Creative Activities for Lifelong Success Find Creative Activity opportunities for you at UTEP Here’s what we want to accomplish in the next few minutes. Will you read the first one? Thanks. We’ve done that – defined Creative Activities. Will you read the second one? Thanks. So, start thinking about your talents, your strengths, your skills and how they contribute to you finding and learning from Creative Activities then how they will contribute to your lifelong success. And, will you read number 3 for us? Thanks. So, we’ll finish up with finding some opportunities to be creative through UTEP that you can join.

Creative Activities Icebreaker Get in groups of four - five. Start the story. “It was a dark and stormy night and …” The first person continues the story for 20 - 30 seconds then ends with the phrase “and then! …” The next person continues around until everyone in the group has contributed to the story. Go around again if there’s time. The last person has to end the story. OK, now for today’s activity. [Paraphrase the slide instructions.] [Give everyone a minute to get in groups.] OK, ready? Let’s see how creative you can be and come up with a great story in the next few minutes. How was that? Let’s hear something from each group? What was your story about?

Creative Activities Talk with your instructor, academic advisor, or campus employer about ideas for this experience. Take a class that allows you to explore your creativity through art or dance or writing or … Join a club or group – there are over 200 student organizations at UTEP – everything from advertising to anime to ceramics to dance to film to gaming to robotics to philosophy to playmakers. I go wherever my creativity takes me. Lil Wayne So, that’s an introduction to Creative Activities at UTEP. There are many ways to get involved in Creative Activities at UTEP that will add to your personal satisfaction, your professional development, and lifelong success – whether or not it is connected to your major and career path. Be creative! Thanks.
