Journal You have been given the task of relaying sad news to someone—their beloved family pet has died. Write a scene, letter or dialogue showing your use and understanding of kairos, audience and decorum. Kairos: When will you tell the person? (What’s going on before/after you tell them?) Audience: Who are you telling? What’s their age or other important details? Decorum: What language will you use, or how will you phrase this news?

As you listen to each excerpt, take note of things that stand out to you as an example of “good rhetoric” Try and identify the speaker or the audience of the speech When might this speech have been given? Can you identify any examples of “decorum” in the speech just from listening to it?
