Desk Organizer Design Brief Client Company: Office Supply Chain   Target Consumer: Teachers, Corporate Executives, and home office workers Designer:  CJN Problem Statement: Keeping an office desk from becoming cluttered with papers, devices such as pens, pencils, staplers, paper clips, Post-It Notes, and writing pads is a never-ending task. This hinders work space and organization. Design Statement: Design and model a product that will reduce the clutter that accumulates on office desks and free up space. Constraints: Must not attach to the desk. Must fit into a box with interior dimensions of 6 in. depth x 12 in. width x 10 in. height. Must include a recessed area, a bent plastic part, and must have a base ¾ in. thick. Must have a minimum of five different parts once assembled. Must hold a minimum of six items.

The Problem and Our Solution We have found through research of our own desks, that what makes desks the most messy are the stray pens, and pencils, and little odds and ends. Now, there are two answers to this problem. You could get rid of the stray things all together or you could organize them in a box or drawer that meets the constraints listed above. We chose to design a convient drawer under the company of CJN. This drawer would be made affordable for all companies to purchase for their workers. It would fit in their desks and hold over five items. Not only would it have different models for different desks, but it would also be bio-degradable.

As you can see, this was the sketch we decided to use as our final design. We used a decision matrix to decide on the final sketch we were going to use.

These are the parts of our organizer These are the parts of our organizer. There is the main drawer, the handle, the main divider, secondary divider, and the circular divider.

As you can see, all these parts put together form four different compartments. One for pens and pencils, one for papers, and two for whatever you want!

In Conclusion What makes this different from other types of drawers? Well first off, it is not a normal drawer. It is instead used to hold everything that doesn’t belong in any of your other drawers. It is more general storage rather than targeted storage. Second, this is an item created by the working class for the working class. If anyone one can relate to having a small space to store things, it would be us. Thank you for taking the time to listen to our presentation. We look forward to working together with you on this project.
