The Gospel of King Jesus The Mighty Warrior The Gospel of King Jesus

Two Questions… If the Messiah was to conquer the enemies of God’s people, why did Jesus die?   Why did Jesus choose to die on Passover rather than the Day of Atonement?

1 Samuel 8 19 But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, “No! But there shall be a king over us, 20 that we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.”

The Exodus: Victory of the Great King Passover and Firstborn - Exodus 4:22-23 God defeated Pharaoh – Exodus 15:1-10 God the King – Exodus 15:18

Isaiah 51 9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the Lord; awake, as in days of old, the generations of long ago. Was it not you who cut Rahab in pieces, who pierced the dragon? 10 Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to pass over? 11 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Isaiah 49 24 Can the prey be taken from the mighty, or the captives of a tyrant be rescued? 25 For thus says the LORD: “Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken, and the prey of the tyrant be rescued, for I will contend with those who contend with you, and I will save your children.”

Nehemiah 9 36 Behold, we are slaves this day; in the land that you gave to our fathers to enjoy its fruit and its good gifts, behold, we are slaves. 37 And its rich yield goes to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They rule over our bodies and over our livestock as they please, and we are in great distress.

Jesus the Liberator Jesus’ birth was celebrated as victory over the enemies of God’s people (Lk. 1:68-77; 2:38). Jesus’ baptism and temptation was an identification with God’s people (Lk. 3:15-21; 4:1-13). Jesus’ message was an announcement of liberation (Lk. 4:16-19).

Jesus the Liberator Jesus’ miracles were warfare against the enemy (Lk. 8:26-29; 13:10-17; 11:14-23; 10:17)  Jesus’ death was the assault on the enemy’s real power (Lk. 9:30-31; 22:3; 22:31; 22:53 Jesus’ resurrection explained how He could suffer and conquer (Lk. 24:21-27).

What Jesus’ Death and Resurrection Accomplished Deliverance from the domain of darkness (Col. 1:13-14). Reconciliation to God (Col. 1:18-22). Disarmed and put to shame the forces of evil (Col. 2:13-15).

Two Questions… If the Messiah was to conquer the enemies of God’s people, why did Jesus die?   Why did Jesus choose to die on Passover rather than the Day of Atonement?

Revelation 19 11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
