Are there other Image Capture Devices?

What is Photographic Composition? Photographic Composition is: Organizing the various elements of the scene in a way that is pleasing to the eye. Defining a specific focal point or Main Subject

What is a Focal Point / Main Subject?

The focal point is: An object or area of the photo that you feel is the most important or that should be emphasized the most. This can be a person, object , group of objects or even just a specific area of the photo that you want to draw the viewers eye to.

No Focal Point Bad Composition !!!

Good Composition !!

Snap Shot Vs Composition

Blurry vs out of focus Blurry Photo, Caused by having shutter speed to slow for the image, the camera in this shot was moving side to side to create the blur. The photos on the right show the sign in focus vs out of focus.

There are 6 different types of Photographic Composition. Formal Balance Informal Balance Rule of thirds Leading lines Framing Horizon Photos

Formal Balance

Formal Balance is when the elements of each side of the photo are symmetrical this is often called symmetrical balance

Both sides of photo match each other.

Often they are the same image at a different size. Informal Balance Informal balance relates to the visual balance of the photo. Each side of the photo must relate to the other and therefore balance the scene, but they do not have to be the same item. Often they are the same image at a different size.

This is often called Asymmetrical balance

This is the most common type of composition Rule of thirds This is the most common type of composition it is created when the subject falls on the intersecting point of the imaginary lines created when you break the photo into thirds both vertically and horizontally

RULE of THIRds

RULE of THIRds

Leading Lines This is a type of composition where you use forground elements to direct the viewer through your photo, ending at The focal point.

Leading Lines

Framing This type of composition is where objects in the foreground and Background of a photo help to frame or emphasize the main subject of the photo.
