Five Basic Principles for a Changing World Dynamic capabilities A continually changing organization A people-centric approach An ambidextrous organization An open organization that networks with its surroundings

Five Basic Principles for a Changing World Dynamic capabilities Include the ability to sense and shape opportunities and threats seize opportunities and maintain and reorganize resources as needed

Five Basic Principles for a Changing World A continually changing organization If you delay taking action until problems arise, you will act too late. The organization should be permeated with a proactive approach to change

Five Basic Principles for a Changing World A people-centric approach This principle is based on the belief that people want and need to be creative and that an organization must provide a setting in which they can exercise their creativity

Five Basic Principles for a Changing World An ambidextrous organization Organizations combine two different forms of organizational logic to optimize daily functioning, which works best with a conventional planning-and-control approach, and innovation, which requires greater freedom, flexibility, and a more open attitude toward experimentation The organization should not only balance these two forms of logic but utilize the energy inherent in the contrast between them

Five Basic Principles for a Changing World An open organization that networks with its surroundings An organization can be more or less open to integration with its surroundings. While no organizations are totally closed systems with distinct borders that separate them from the world beyond, they can have more or less permeable boundaries that affect their ability to exchange information and knowledge with their surroundings Long-term survival requires that organizations develop into more openly networked systems
