Institutions By Harvey Goodridge

Two Media Institutions The two different media institutions are Major and independent production company. Dreamworks is a good example of a major production company but they are owned by a larger company called Universal Pictures. This means they produce content across multiple different media platforms, such as music and print. On the other hand the independent production company such as warpfilms, they are not a group owned by a larger company this means they will have a lower budget and rely on funding from others.

The type of institution - Independent Warpfilms is a British film production company which is also independent. Films/TV shows they have created are; The last panthers and this is England ‘90 both of these were made in 2015 and were made for tv.

How do Warpfilms get their funding? Warpfilms get their funding from things such as crowd funding. Crowd funding this were they allow the public to donate money to help fund a new project they are working on. One example of this is were they made 4 short films for the tomorrows parties music festival by Vincent Moon they used a website called kickstarter to fund this project.

Warpfilms achievements Warpfilms made a film called this is England and the budget was $1.5 million and they made a profit of $5 million Another films that they made was called Submarine and the budget for this was £1.5 million and they made a profit of £3.8 million.

The type of institution - Major DreamWorks is a major production company they have work on films such as; Sherk, how to train your dragon and even kung Fu Panda. DreamWorks was founded on October 12, 1994 which is 22 years old.

How do DreamWorks get their funding? DreamWorks gets their funding from private inventors and they also have smaller sub sections of the production company they have the main DreamWorks and they also have DreamWorks Animation this means they can branch out and make more films and even more money.

DreamWorks Achievements Signed a $1.5 billion deal to produce films with India's Reliance ADA Group. Animated productions have grossed £13.48 billion and they have $421.4 million per film.

How has the internet changed the release of these two institutions. Both of these institutions both use Twitter and Facebook. DreamWorks seems to run more “giveaways” to promote there up and coming productions. This is a good way of doing it because as people like it and retweet it they spread it around, this is called viral media. But on the other hand warp films don’t post every day like DreamWorks. They only post tweets about there films and trailers of there films and TV shows, they also use a lot of hashtags so people and easily find there tweets.

The formats that people watch there products With Warp Films a lot of there TV shows are on demand 4 so a lot of the people that watch their stuff people be watching it online through that website. On the other hand DreamWorks films you can watch any where for example YouTube, iTunes. The reason both of these production companies have gone to online is because its more portable and a lot easier for people to watch where ever they want.
