Presented by Christine Daniel Other changes to HESES Presented by Christine Daniel Birmingham 28 June 2010

Other changes to HESES For 2010-11: Removal of Column 3 in Table 4 Removal of need to collect information on ‘Model 2’ Lifelong Learning Networks (LLNs) New columns to collect information on employer co- funded provision Possible change in file format of HESES workbook For 2011-12: Clarification of the treatment of foundation years

Other changes to HESES Removal of Column 3 in Table 4: Column 3 of Table 4 introduced in HESES09 to help with monitoring entrants to full-time undergraduate and PGCE study in 2009-10 Due to way we have set student number control for 2010-11, this column is no longer needed

Other changes to HESES Removal of need to collect information on ‘Model 2’ LLNs: Columns 5 and 5a of Tables 1a, 2 and 3 of HESES09 collected data on ‘Model 2’ LLNs All LLNs to be funded through the mainstream ‘Model 1’ route from 2010-11 so these columns no longer required for this purpose But they have been replaced by columns to collect employer co-funded data……..

Other changes to HESES New columns to collect information on employer co-funded provision: Such students already returned in HESES as non- fundable Monitored through a separate end-of-year return From HESES10 will monitor these students in a new Column 5 and 5a in Tables 1a, 2 and 3 Separate end-of-year return to be continued for time being

Other changes to HESES Possible change in file format of HESES workbook: Intend to create HESES10 workbook in Excel 2007 (file extension .xlsx) rather than Excel 2003 (file extension .xls) Institutions which have not migrated to Excel 2007 will need to install the Microsoft Compatibility Pack

Other changes to HESES Clarification of the treatment of foundation years: Foundation years are classed as ‘recognised HE courses’ only if they are an integrated part of a recognised HE qualification For 2011-12 we intend to make it clear that such provision will be considered integrated only if: students are already registered for the recognised HE qualification at the same institution, and progression to the recognised HE qualification is guaranteed, subject to satisfactory completion of the foundation year.

Other changes to HESES Other things for HESES10: Provisional date for return – Thursday 9 December at noon Provisional date for introductory seminar – Thursday 2 September in London Some changes to the format of the guidance
