Projects with Scottish Links Partner What we are doing Improving Access to ICT in Secondary Schools in Malawi: funded by the small grants programme and aims at Installing Computers in Secondary Schools in the Northern Education Division Solarberry: Installing a computer lab repurposed from a shipping container running on low energy computers (raspberry pis) and solar at Choma. Inspiring Young Farmers Project: inspiring young people in Mhuju EPA to commit to being smallholder farmers, develop modern farming methods and participate in the value chain from growing to marketing. Water is life: funded by the Climate Justice Innovation Fund targeting Tapukwa community and addressing the nexus of food, water and energy by refurbishing the irrigation scheme, providing hydroelectric power and providing potable water for households.

Improving access to ICT in Secondary Schools …………………..Progress this far

The overall aim of the project is to improve ICT education in Malawi. The design The overall aim of the project is to improve ICT education in Malawi. Solarberry – off-grid computer laboratory …………………..Progress this far

The design SolarBerry enables access to transformational ICTs and independent learning software hosted on its electronic library for lifelong learning opportunities for students & community members. When combined with innovative software the e-library can be hosted on Rapsberry Pis, revolutionary PCs that cost less than £30. Even better, Raspberry Pis are extremely energy efficient, using 100x less than a typical Desktop PC, and 5 times less than an LED lightbulb. This means that it is affordable and appropriate to power the Raspberry Pis with solar energy. Moreover in supporting a sustainable world, the SolarBerry is constructed from an upcycled used shipping container that is transformed into a computer lab. A repurposed container becomes an easily transported classroom that can significantly reduce construction costs, compared to a typical rural building, by installing in a remote community within a single day. The container also ensures a secure enclosure for the high-value technologies within whilst reducing unnecessary waste

Water is life project Conception ……..

The design The project has three outcomes; Outcome 1: 103 farmers will be trained and equipped to earn a living through agriculture. Access to irrigation and mechanisation will be an important part of this. Outcome 2: 103 farmers will be trained in basic financial literacy, entrepreneurship and agriculture to enable them to contribute to their family’s well-being. Outcome 3: The 83 households will have the potential to gain clean water and safe energy. The target is 100% to access clean water and at least 75% to access renewable energy by the end of the project.
