Key Dates 2016 Saplings Phonics Meeting Monday 19th September Mrs Daniels will explain our phonics teaching Harvest Festival Friday 7th October – 14.00-15.00 Please come and join us… Harvest boxes, one per family please to be sent in by Monday 3rd Boxes will be judged on Friday 7th Show and Share- Wednesday 19th October at 15.15-16.00 Opportunity for your children to share their work with you and talk you through their learning. Collect your children’s work from their classroom and browse with your child in the hall. The classroom will be open for your child to show you round.

Key Dates 2016 Sparkle and Shine Evening - 3rd November 2015 4.00-6.00 A range of activities to take place after dark! Theme to include the Great Fire of London and Guy Fawkes, as well as Diwali. Saplings invited at parents discretion. EYFS invited at parents discretion. £2.00 donation requested. A detailed letter will follow – Parent Volunteers requested!. DBS clearance required. Homework 2016 We will be launching our new ‘home learning grids’ across the school. See homework policy which accompanied the newsletter last Friday.

Homework 2016 TYPES OF LEARNING ACTIVITIES: Key Skills: Children’s learning is underpinned by essential key skills – maths, reading, Grammar Special Time: Children may be asked to complete activities with their family e.g. a topic for discussion over dinner, reading a book together or creating something as a family. Helping Hands: Children may be asked to demonstrate our school values by being helpful within the family home or in the wider community. Matrix: Children may be presented with a range of topic based activities to be completed over a longer period of time.

Reading 2016 Reading – A Key Skill It is expected that you read with your child every day. Remember to log your reading in your reading record. We expect you to read with your children for at least 10 mins in ELMS and 15 mins BEECH. Daily is best but at least 4 times per week is a minimum. Reading Records will be checked by an adult in school at least once a week. Children will read with an adult in school for guided reading at least once a week. BUG CLUB – online reading books and activities for KS1 and EYFS children – new log on details will come home with your chidlren soon.

Routines 2016 Phonics Four times a week Differentiated groups – targeted to the needs of your child, across the key stage including EYFS. Handwriting will be modelled within these sessions. Handwriting also taught in class Morning Maths Master Classes Twice a week Differentiated groups – targeted to the needs of your child, across the key stage including EYFS. To build and maintain mastery in maths curriculum.

Expectations for Parents 2016 If you have a concern or news you want to share: We are here to help: In the first instance, always discuss your child or your concerns with their class teacher. If you need more than a quick chat, please book an appointment via the school office. -Following meeting with your child’s teacher, if you feel you need to seek further support, please book time with a key stage leader. Either, Mrs Bampton, Key Stage One leader or Miss Johnson Key Stage Two leader. Depending on the issues, we may feel more than one meeting is needed. -If parents have a concern about special educational learning, first speak to your class teacher, and then our SENCO and Inclusion Manager, Miss Akehurst. -Our Headteacher, Mrs Hillman is available to support parents too. Please arrange a meeting with her if you feel further support is needed after meeting with Key Stage Leaders.

Expectations for Behaviour 2016 We have high expectations of behaviour and we will expect your child to follow the School Rules. The children have: A right to learn A responsibility to try to do the best that they can. A right to be safe and cared for A responsibility to look after each other A right to play A responsibility to include others A right to be respected A responsibility to listen, to speak politely and to be honest.

Expectations for Behaviour for Learning 2016 Reward is the best motivation for learning Children are expected to stay on ‘green’ – Children will be given house points for small achievements such as sitting nicely, helping a teacher, completing tasks well and so on – collected weekly. Children will be rewarded by being moved on the behaviour chart to ‘the star’ if they have gone ‘over and above’ expectations – they get a sticker for the class chart and collectively the class works towards a class treat – These are given for merit and not monitored. Personal achievements recognised in certificates given out in assembly.

Expectations for Behaviour for Learning 2016 We have high expectations of behaviour and we will expect your child to follow the School Rules. Children who do not show the appropriate behaviour will be given a warning – and asked to change their behaviour Children continuing or showing other additional inappropriate behaviour will be given an Amber card which will be recorded in the School Behaviour book and 5 minutes of the following morning playtime will be missed. Children continuing or showing other additional inappropriate behaviour will be given a Red card which will be recorded in the School Behaviour book anc parents will be informed. Children will miss their next morning break. Continual Red cards will require further action to be discussed with parents. Each day starts on Green!

Routines and Expectations 2016 Equipment Please provide your child with Water bottle – clear and named Wellies – in a plastic bag and named Waterproof coat – named Reading Record in school every day please PE Kits to be worn on PE days ELMS Wednesday and Thursday BEECH Wednesday and Friday Uniform School Jumper should be worn every day Earrings – studs only, to be removed for PE by child Shirts should be tucked in Long hair should be tied back off of face No nailvarnish, body transfers or friendship bands
