Welcome to Back To School Night! Mrs. Vermilyea 4th Grade

About Mrs. Vermilyea Graduated from UC Riverside with a bachelors degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in English and a minor in Education Received teaching credential at CSUSM 13th year teaching 4th grade or ¾ combo I grew up in Poway. My husband and I have two kids, a 4 year old boy and a 16 month girl

Daily Schedule 8:45-9:00 Morning Routine/Silent Read 9:15-10:00 Whole Group Language Arts 10:00-11:10 Guided Reading 11:10-11:30 Recess 11:30-12:20 P.E./Library/VAPA 12:20-12:30 Math Talk 12:30-1:15 Lunch 1:15-2:30 Math 2:30-3:10 Science/Social Studies

Curriculum Overview Reading Writing Math Core Reading – Benchmark Adoption and shared novels (By the Great Horn Spoon, Island of the Blue Dolphins) Guided Reading – leveled novels and texts Science and Social Studies Texts Writing Informative Opinion Narrative Math Place Value/Addition/subtraction with large numbers Double digit multiplication/division with place value Fractions – comparing, ordering, adding and subtracting Geometry/Area and Perimeter Math Reasoning Science – ecosystems, rocks and minerals, electricity and magnetism Social Studies – California history

Grading Rubric Scores (1-4) Homework will count as effort 4 = Exceeding 3 = Proficient 2 = Developing 1 = Emerging Homework will count as effort Graded work will be sent home in Wednesday Envelopes. Parent Teacher conferences will be in November. Report cards will be sent home in February and June. Mid term notices will be sent mid semester.

Discipline Policy RULES Consequences Follow directions the first time given. Be prepared. Keep hands, feet, and objects to self. No put downs, name calling, or insults. Work quietly.
