SCIENCE News! Go Beyond Z at Home! Homework is due October 21st 2016! SEPTEMBER 2016 The Class of 2029 will learn all about magnets in our Electromagnetism: Exploring Magnetism Unit! Big Science Ideas in this Unit Scholar learning will focus on… Identifying the poles of magnets and explaining how the poles of magnets will behave when placed near each other. Describing the relationship between force of attraction and the distance between objects. Accurately recording data in tables and charts. Analyzing data from a test of a variety of objects to draw a conclusion. Using evidence to evaluate a statement. Go Beyond Z at Home! Here are some easy ways to engage your scholar at home: Go on a hunt for magnetic and non- magnetic objects in your home. Challenge your scholar to predict first, and then test out objects. Visit this website for experiments you can do at home, including building your own compass: http://lifestyle.howstuffworks.com/crafts/ other-arts-crafts/science-projects-for- kids-magnets-and-metal.htm. The first Science IA of the year will be on October 25th. Be on the lookout for more communication! Homework is due October 21st 2016! Important Scientific Vocabulary Magnet: An object that can attract or repel magnetic objects. Attract: When magnets and magnetic objects push each other away. Repel: When magnets and magnetic objects pull each other together. Force of attraction: The push or pull between a magnet and a magnetic object. Magnetic force: The strength of a magnet. Magnetic: To be attracted to a magnet. Contact Me! If you have any questions or concerns about science class, please feel free to contact me!
