Disaster Response – A Collaboration

ICN Competencies Evaluates health needs and available resources in the area to meet basic needs of the population. Collaborates with the disaster response team to reduce hazards and risks in the disaster-affected area. Understands how to prioritize care and manage multiple situations. Participates in preventive strategies such as mass immunization activities. Collaborates with relief organizations to address basic needs of the community (e.g. shelter, food, water, health care).

Red Cross Disaster Response Disaster Cycle Services Service to Our Clients span the entire disaster cycle, are predictable and repeatable and are applied consistently across the country. The community knows what to expect from us. Services and programs should be designed based first on the needs and expectations of clients and community consistent with the mission, and then on those of key stakeholders. Be a facilitative leader across the disaster cycle: the Red Cross will align with government and work to enable the entire community to participate in all phases of the disaster cycle by shifting from being not only a provider of direct services but also a facilitative leader.

Services to Our Clients A single integrated approach to building personal and community resilience encompasses services delivered through a single comprehensive disaster management process (whole cycle) which integrates and unifies programs and activities across the entire enterprise. Disaster Health Services Role The Disaster Health Services program includes the following services: Physical health-related interventions to assist individuals to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all disaster events. Community public health related interventions to assist communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all disaster events. Staff Shelters

Disaster Health Services Role Address the unmet disaster-related health needs of impacted individuals, families, and communities. Provide interventions that focus on assessment, care, support, comfort, and education of individuals and communities experiencing disaster-related health needs.
