How does a seat belt work? The Seat belt is a pulley that stretches when one pulls it and retracts when let go. A gear located inside of the car can stop movement of the seat belt when the car is involved in a crash or a sudden stop , tightening the passenger to seat to avoid the passenger to fly out.
When was the seat belt invented? The first seat belt was invented by George Cayley in 1849, but the first patent for a seat belt was in 1885 by Edward J. Claghorn. His patent was for a two point seat belt. The modern belt wasn’t created until 1959 by Nils Bohlin for Volvo.
