What is an interactive notebook??? A spiral notebook that is used to organize information. The right side is used for teacher information (notes, lectures, discussions, handouts, etc.) The left side is used for student information (drawings, cartoons, personalized wording of vocabulary, etc.) (Young, 2003). Pros of using an interactive notebook 4. Allows students to express their creative side 5. When students are absent, they can use the teacher’s or a peer’s to add in the missing pages 6. Cons of using an interactive notebook Student’s without strong organizational skills can find it difficult Initial organization & set-up can be time consuming If students loose them, it is difficult to re-create Sometimes, they are not the best tool for every subject or unit. aiken county public school district

So, where do I begin? Step 1: Decide if the interactive notebook is truly the tool you want to use in your classroom. Step 2: Decide how you will set-up and use your notebook. * create guidelines, rubrics, etc. Step 3: Set up your teacher notebook aiken county public school district

Parent-Teacher Communication using Data Books Purpose: to provide another method of communicating with parents as well as helping students track their progress. Materials: 2 pocket folder, chart/table for academic record & parent signature Data Book aiken county public school district

Set home periodically with a record of recently grade assignments. Sending the Data Books Home: Set home periodically with a record of recently grade assignments. The students fill in a chart which includes the assignment name & their grade. The Parent/Guardian sign, make comments, etc. Students return them to class aiken county public school district
