A Transition program for new graduates Taking the next step A Transition program for new graduates Sandra Gates Director allied health and clinical support services

Background Numerous challenges face allied health professionals at the beginning of their careers. These challenges include the responsibility of taking a full work load and managing it independently and efficiently in a fast paced and often pressurised environment. New graduates are required to quickly understand and operate within a complex healthcare system and organisation and to step up and perform tasks in teams where they don’t understand the prevailing hierarchy or accountabilities. Health Services and Managers recognise these challenges and provide several means to support new graduates. A structured graduate program is one such means. A structured graduate program provides a forum in which many of the complex issues graduates face can be discussed and explored in ways that help them to adjust to the requirements of working in a health service

Taking the next step program Run across the Women’s, RCH, Peter Mac and the Eye and Ear Allied Health New Graduates and Pharmacy Interns 6 sessions across 6 months Facilitators drawn from Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Nutrition, People and Change (HR), Education and Executive
