Temporal Lobes and it’s functions By Max Zhou

Temporal Lobes – general idea The Temporal Lobes have functions relating to the limbic system, the physical senses and memory. It is a part of the cerebrum along with the frontal, parietal and occipital lobes. There are 2 temporal lobes and one in each brain hemisphere.

Temporal Lobes and limbic system The structures of the limbic system are contained within the temporal lobes. The Olfactory system, Amygdala and Hippocampus are located in the limbic system. The Olfactory system regulates our sense of smell. The Amygdala is involved in processing emotions such as fear, anger and pleasure and is involved in many of other emotions and motivations more so to related to survival. The Hippocampus has many crucial functions such as creating new long term memories, emotional responses, and Spatial orientation.

Temporal lobes and visual and auditory perception The temporal lobes organizes sensory input. The temporal lobes helps to make sense of the auditory information of pitches, sounds, noise, etc. into something that is recognizable and plays a major part in our recognition of languages. The temporal lobes also plays a part in our visual senses in which it helps to recognize complex objects like faces and scenes.

Temporal Lobes and Memory The Temporal Lobes interacts with the hippocampus in order to create long term memories which is influenced by the amygdala meaning that it is helps to create and process conscious memories.
