WHY STUDY HISTORY? “He who does not know history is fated to repeat it” -George Santayana What is the meaning of this statement?

WHY HISTORY? What is the underlying meaning (message) of the Santayana quote? What events do you think mankind has learned from (or should)? Why else is history (especially Global History) a useful course of study?

GLOBAL HISTORY Why is the world becoming increasingly interdependent? Can you think of some examples of the world’s interdependence? Homework: due Tuesday, September 12th Create either a political cartoon or a poster illustrating the Santayana or Lord Acton quote. GLOBAL HISTORY Global History relies heavily on cultural history. In order to write history, including cultural history, historians rely upon various fields in the social sciences. Can you identify some fields of the social sciences?
