What have we got to offer? Previous Year 13 2017: We had 3 pupils successfully complete an A level in computing 2017: We had 7 pupils successfully complete A level in IT 2016: We had 5 pupils successfully complete an AS level in Computing. 2016: We had 7 pupils successfully complete an A level in ICT. 2016: We had 25 pupils complete the Cambridge Technicals (2012) Double Award (equivalent of 2 A levels) and 5 pupils who completed the Single Award (equivalent of 1 A level). Out of these 30 pupils, the majority passed with Distinction and Distinction * grades – equivalent UCAS points of A and A*. 2015: In 2014 we had 11 students pass the double award with Distinction and Distinction * grades. Many of these pupils went on to study courses in IT or Computing related subjects at University.

Current Year 13 We have 15 pupils studying the new CTEC IT 2017 course. We also have 7 pupils studying A level Computer Science. Most of these students are either looking to develop Computer Science or IT further or will be starting apprenticeships. One will be moving onto Oxford to further develop his expertise in the sciences.

Current Year 12 We have 21 pupils studying the new CTEC 2016 course. We also have 9 pupils studying OCR Computer Science at A level.

A Level OCR Computer Science A level – builds on the knowledge of GCSE Computer Science Computer systems (2 hours 30 minutes : worth 40%) Algorithms and programming (2 hours 30 minutes : worth 40%) Programming project (worth 20%) This is a real-life project. For example – create a computer system using Python, SQL database back-end and web front-end. Or create a board game that has different levels. Why study Computer Science? It allows you to be ambitious and opens up doors for you globally! Robotics, Drones, Coding and Cyber Security, Computer Science in Game Technology in the next few years will be big earners. World recognised qualification and opportunity for apprenticeships in British Aerospace and Government funded Cyber Security apprenticeships It’s an intensely creative subject that combines invention and excitement, that can look at the natural world through a digital prism. The Computer Science qualifications will value computational thinking, helping students to develop the skills to solve problems, design systems and understand the power and limits of human and machine intelligence. Computer Science involves questions that have the potential to change how we view the world.  Students will develop skills of analysis and problem solving throughout the course.

Computer Science Entry Requirements Grade 6 in GCSE Maths, and a grade B or above in GCSE Computing or GCSE ICT. Students should have the commitment to practice programming independently. Students will also need a high level of organisation, the ability to prioritise workloads and to be able to work through problems until they find a solution.

Computer Science V ICT ICT is about using computer applications as a support tool. This builds upon the skills taught in ICT lessons. Computing is about learning how the computer works and how to program the computer. The two subjects are so different in content, that it is possible to choose both subjects.

Entry Requirements GCSE IT level may be of benefit but it is not essential. ICT – C English – C Maths – C   Information Technology  Course Accreditation: OCR LEVEL 3 CAMBRIDGE TECHNICAL INTRODUCTORY DIPLOMA in IT Examining Board: OCR Duration of Course 2 years Method of Assessment There are no external tests or timetabled exams for this qualification and so would suit students who prefer a coursework only based route of study, but who are good at time management and organising tasks, as well as working independently. This course carries the equivalent UCAS points for an A Level grade of E, C, A or A* (in relation to awarded grades, Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*).

Unit 1—Fundamentals of IT (Exam) Unit 2—Global Information (Exam) Unit 3—Cyber Security (Exam) Unit 8—Social Media and Digital Media Marketing (Coursework assignment) Unit 17—Internet of Everything (Coursework assignment) Private Study Requirements Students will be expected to plan and manage their own projects. students are issued with a list of fortnightly weekly checklist deadlines which must be adhered to.

Advisable for the following Careers This qualification is suitable for those wishing to pursue a career or to study at a higher level in IT, Computing, Business Administration, Games/ Graphics /Web Site creation, Project Management roles. Good in combination with Business Studies, Computing, Film Studies, Media Studies

Visits from Computer Science graduates and Local Computer Companies Workshops from Educational Robot Leaders Stem Competitions We have developed close links with Kings College, Birmingham University, Chichester Univeristy, The British Computer Society, the Chartered Institute for IT Raspberry PI pioneers as well as other companies and organisations, to assist us in providing exciting opportunities such as talks and lectures, hack days and other events for our students to participate in.
