Act I Recap Girls (Betty Parris, Abigail Parris, Ruth Putnam, Mercy Lewis, Mary Warren, and 5 to 7 others) were caught dancing in the woods by Reverend Parris. Betty wouldn’t wake up the next day and Ruth was walking around unresponsive in a trance. Abigail confesses to dancing to Tituba’s Barbados songs and Ruth conjuring the spirits of her dead sisters. Abigail also secretly drank a potion to kill John Proctor’s wife. Abigail was fired from the Proctor home for getting to close to John and is madly in love with him. John rejects her. John Putnam sent for Reverend Hale of Beverly to come to Salem to find the witch and dispel the Devil. Giles Corey unknowingly put his wife in Reverend Hale’s crosshairs for the investigation. There’s a beef between Parris and Proctor, and Putnam and Proctor. Goody Putnam confessed to sending her daughter Ruth to Tituba to conjure up her dead siblings. Tituba admits to seeing the Devil, but claims she is not responsible for what is happening to Betty and Ruth. Reverend Hale coerces Tituba to “come to the light” and side with God, and to tell who was with the Devil.

Act I Recap After seeing that using Tituba as a scapegoat didn’t work since Tituba confessed and pledged her life to God, Abigail admits to drinking blood and want s the “light of God” upon her too. Reverend Hale asks Tituba how many people were with the Devil, and she tells him four. Tituba names Goody (Sarah) Good and Goody Osburn. Then, Abigail and Betty start naming names (pg. 485). At the end of Act I Putnam was calling for the marshal to go out and lock these people up in irons.

Act II Pg. 487 – 503 This Act begins in home of John and Elizabeth Proctor. Pay attention to the awkwardness and tension between these two. You’ll hopefully observe two people trying to maintain some level of normalcy while ignoring the “elephant in the room”; well, for a while at least… DUN-DUN-DUUUUUNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
